We are passionate film students from Multimedia University Iskandar Puteri, Johor. We are currently working on our final year project "KANTOI", a short film about a high school girl who faces a dilemm... See More
Have you ever gotten a secret that you could NEVER tell anyone? Especially your bestfriend? This is where "Kantoi" comes in the picture. The phrase "Kantoi" means "caught red-handed" and Alia is the person in question and her only option is? To lie. Now, Alia faces the dilemma on whether or not to tell her bestfriend, Raihan, that the positive pregnancy test that they found is actually hers.
The story is inspired by the director's high school experience when a friend of his went through a pregnancy scare. She told her bestfriend but her bestfriend betrayed her by telling other students; everything went havoc. Despite it being a false alarm, her friend's true colors were shown; she cannot be trusted. Alia is facing the same thing. Raihan is a typical high school girl who lives to gossip, and not to mention, she is the principal's daughter, making Alia harder to tell Raihan the truth.
The characters in Kantoi, specifically Alia and Raihan, contradict each other's motives in terms of going on this hunt. Raihan wants to figure out who is pregnant in the school, while Alia's motives accidently leads her friend on a wild goose chase, in order to preservere her secret.
ALIA
Alia is a 17 year old highschool girl who is best friends with Raihan, the School Principle's daughter. She is a sweet looking girl who is always skeptical about Raihan's habit of gossiping but she never really questions Raihan as she has always thought it brings no harm to others until it happens to herself.
RAIHAN
Raihan, Alia's bestfriend, is a 17 year old highschool girl, who has a bad habit of gossiping. Due to her mother being the principal of the school, she's developed a high sense of authority over others. She is also a very curious girl, who has the need of finding every single juicy gossip in the school. This eagerness of hers is what leads to the crumbling of her friendship with Alia.
High school is the highlight of the director's life, which is why he wanted to make a film about high school. Since the film is based in a high school, which makes our shooting location in a highschool. Our shooting will be in Sekolah Dato Jaafar, Johor Bahru. The principal even gave us the blessing for choosing Sekolah Dato Jaafar as our location choice.
Our film has the sense of adventure, which makes the characters go to other places, and to another, making this film has lot of locations to cover. For example,
FOOTBALL FIELD (above)
CANTEEN (above)
CORRIDOR (above)
TOILET (above)
Alia and Raihan will be on the "hunt" on a Saturday, which also is the extra co-curricular day. The students, including Alia and Raihan, will be wearing their club uniforms. Other than Girl Scouts and Police Cadets, we will be also fill up the school with extras to have the environment of a school. Therefore, the other students will be also wearing various types of uniforms. For example:
One of our mission is to make our film to look vibrant and colorful. The wardrobe selections will help enhance the look of the film. It is important to have this as it can set the mood of the film.
With all of these ideas, we are now in the budget department.
As you can see from the chart above, we are spending mainly on PRODUCTION & LOGISTICS. And this is why:
For Kantoi, we are spending mainly on production and logistics because some of the casts are from KL which means we are also covering their accomodation, transportation as well as their meals. Furthermore, we will also have an amount of other side characters and extras. Other than that, we are already trying to save up by finding sponsors for equipments from Above Production. The same goes for wardrobe as we are already in the process of asking people to donate their uniforms. So far, the response has been good.
Moving on to scheduling, we are planning to shoot in December, which is during the school holidays in Malaysia. The principal of the school that we are going to shoot in has already given us the blessing to use the school during the holiday. This is because we will not be disturbing any students and their classes.
We are aspiring filmmakers from MMU Educity, Iskandar Puteri. Right now, Kantoi is our final year project.

I love telling stories. Being a filmmaker is a way for me to tell my stories to the world and in hope that they enjoy it as much as I do
This story would make a change in Malaysia, especially for millenials. For starters, teen pregnancy. It is a serious issue that has been brought about lightly in Malaysia because we don't have sex education and sometimes, religion will take over. Not only we will be covering about teen pregnancy, but also focus on something everyone can relate to; trust and relationships.
